A Missing Map and More about Blasting
I call a friend of mine to come for coffee. He’s a civil engineer and would understand and explain the details of the Ledge Removal Plan.
Joe picks up an 11” x 17” copy of the plan, actually a map. He waves it at me.
“So where’s the big one, the 2’ x 3’ sheet that’s in the Site Development Plan? I asked you to get Planning to make you a copy.”
“But, they don’t have one,” I reply. “I went to Planning. I checked through the entire set of Site Plans. I wrote down a list of the pages: Title/Cover Sheet, Legend and Notes, Existing Conditions Plan, Overall Site Plan, Grading and Drainage Plan, Utility Plan, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plan, Enhancement Plan, Details.”
Joe shakes his head.
“When I didn’t find it, I asked where it was. They said that Cherenzia has never submitted a full-sized Ledge Removal Plan. They even suggested that they could enlarge one of those 11” x 17” copies for me... if that would be helpful”
Joe uses a magnifier to try to pick up details from the smaller version of the map.
“That would get us absolutely no where,” he says. “Take fuzzy detail and blow it up? You just have big fuzzy detail.”
“What are you looking for?” I ask.
“See these broken lines?” He points to curved lines that crawl across the site. “Those are the contour lines before blasting. They show how the land rises and falls as it is now. Now look at the solid lines. Those are the grade lines AFTER blasting. See that little box. There are numbers in that box.”
Joe points to a box that straddles a straight line. I can’t read the numbers even with a magnifying glass.
“Without knowing those numbers, we don’t know the proposed new contours of the site. In other words, we can’t really understand what Cherenzia plans to do.”
Joe takes a sip of coffee.
“With no full-scale Ledge Removal Plan submitted in the application to the Planning Department, what kind of map did the Wetlands Commission or the Conservation Commission get? Oh, let me guess.”
He tapped the copy sitting on my counter.
“Well, I call that a case of hiding information in full sight. Or maybe, I just might call it ... an incomplete application.”

How can the town even consider allowning this to go through if they do not have a complete blasting plan? I live on Greenhaven Rd. across the street from the major blasting site. I currently have very good tasting and good quality water from my well. The fact that all the blasting may alter this is of great concern. My septic system is another major issue. As we do not have town sewerage this may be collapsed and ruin my system. All the surrounding properties should be inspected for well, septic, foundations and interior walls and ceilings prior to any blasting. Once damaged then what??? Not on my street Please!!!
Wow, these maps show much more of what this development will do than what the developer has disclosed. Honesty, transparency and communication needs to be part of this process, please...
Can someone tell me how to get those signs everyone is putting up? My yard at 70 Sunrise would love two.
